• Rebel Nell trades as a Michigan L3C, a for-profit form carrying a charitable purpose requirement, paired with a separate IRS-recognised 501(c)(3) named TEA, EIN 81-2507397, tax exempt since October 2016. TEA's own Form 990 names Rebel Nell as the beneficiary of its programmes.
• TEA reported revenue of 232,623 dollars against expenses of 257,149 dollars in its most recent filing year, 2024.
• The Alliance for American Manufacturing reported in August 2025 that Rebel Nell had 14 employees at its Eastern Market workshop in Detroit, and quoted founder Amy Peterson describing the business as a transitional employer that does not run background checks on the women it hires.
• The same reporting confirms what the jewellery is made from: fallen graffiti and reclaimed material from Detroit landmarks, set in silver or gold plating, with no precious stones.

What Rebel Nell reports about itself

These are the brand’s own statements. Purpose Picks has not independently confirmed them.

• Rebel Nell reports cumulative figures including 50 creative designers employed, 41 graduates into the traditional workforce and 488 lives impacted. None of them carries a date.
• The brand says it provides wraparound support including financial training, legal aid, housing resources and micro-loans, delivered through TEA.
• The brand says it is certified by the Social Enterprise World Forum and the Women's Business Enterprise National Council. Neither could be confirmed in the certifier's own public directory, so both are the brand's assertion.

What this does not tell you

• The brand's own pages disagree on its headline number, giving 36 graduates on one page and 41 on another, with no year attached to either.
• The claim that 100 percent of participants have not returned to shelter living carries no published cohort size, follow-up window or method.
• The site says its work is completely funded by jewellery sales, but third-party IRS filings record grants and awards flowing to both Rebel Nell and TEA, and the wraparound services run through TEA, which is donation funded.
• No wage floor or living wage commitment is published, and the trading company's finances are not public, because an L3C files as an ordinary business rather than as a charity.
• This is a US brand. Its own site says it ships internationally with delivery of up to three weeks, and that any customs fees are the buyer's responsibility.

Who it suits

Someone who wants a keepsake tied to a specific Detroit landmark and a documented employment mission, priced for its provenance rather than its materials, and who is willing to handle import costs on an order from the United States.
